I took Geography IGSCE through open learning with Oxford. My tutor was a very nice, helpful lady, but always seemed to be very busy with family life and other jobs, so she wasn't just a call away when I got really stuck, and I normally had to wait a good few days before getting a reply (in some situations she was much faster but overall I felt like I was bothering her if I called too much as I know she had a very busy schedule). I think trying to translate Madame Bovary in the past historic tense in the very first term did make me feel out of my depth. As I completed the course in only 4 months, I was rather dependent on my tutor turning around assignments quickly. The A level French course content with the Oxford Open Learning was excellent (many contemporary current affairs/issues in France, as well as covering the history of Pétain's Vichy Govt during WW2, the numerous round ups & deportations & the French Resistance !). However, I almost certainly would not have achieved an A grade had it not been for the support provided by the OOL package: A big printed file of course material that comprehensively covered the syllabus. They failed me, failed to reply to my complaints, failed to refund me my course fees in line with their own guarantees, and failed to act as an appropriate exam centre, which they set themselves up for this summer to be able to award calculated grades. The test modules where very good but had to wait a long time for them to be marked .Had no contact with my tutor apart from her marking my modules. WRITE A REVIEW ★★★★☆ 4.0 / 5.
